A big, huge, jam-rockin’ congratulations to Veronica Kraus of Chippewa Falls who, through a random selection process, won the 10KLF ticket give away! Come July 23-26, Veronica will be treated to the sonic stylings of The Flaming Lips, George Clinton & Parliament Funkadelic, Medeski Scofield Martin & Wood, and many, many, oh so many more. Thanks for playing everyone!
Tonight in the Phoenix Park amphitheater, you'll groove to the
reggae/hip-hop/jam ensemble Irie Sol. This band is chock full of local
talent, and they've been hard at work spreading their special blend of
musical herbs and spices all over Eau Claire like tasty mayonnaise.
(Just go with the metaphor.) You can expect horns and drums and lots
and lots of love. The performance is part of Eau Claire's own Juneteenth celebration, happening down in the Phark all day.
Sounds Like Summer: Irie Sol (part of Juneteenth) • Thursday, June 19 • Phoenix Park amphitheater in Downtown Eau Claire • 6:30pm • all ages • FREE • 552-0457
This summer is something else. There's so much going on, so many locals writing books and releasing CDs and developing community and whatnot, that it's all we can do just to cram it all into the mag.
This ... biweek? ... V1 tackles pedestrian culture and safety in Eau Claire; new band Nameless Feeling (think ambient music from metalheads); local veterans The Jim Pullman Band's new CD; Janice Durand's documentary about the Northern Wisconsin State Fair, Fair Is Something You Take a Pig To; UW-Eau Claire's Summer Shorts film series; kids learning golf and life skills through The First Tee; several local restaurants/bars adding patios, which may or may not have anything to do with Eau Claire's impending smoking ban; the grand opening of the Ager Association's resource library; and upcoming shows by artists such as QuinnElizabeth (has a new CD out), The Softrocks, and Chastity Brown.
BONUS: Have a listen to a few touring bands in the valley this weekend (in addition to our many talented locals):
