Volume One’s 5th Annual Fiction Contest Underway
Volume One, the Chippewa Valley’s biweekly arts and culture publication, is now accepting entries for its fifth annual fiction contest. We are seeking original, unpublished fiction entries from the local community of works between 500 and 2500 words in length. Prizes include having the work published and illustrated in Volume One, $100 cash, one $50 gift certificate, and one $25 gift certificate to Crossroad Books in downtown Eau Claire. Official Rules and Eligibility Requirements for Volume One’s 5th Annual Fiction Contest
1. The contest is open to everyone, but preference is given to authors residing in the Eau Claire, Menomonie, and Chippewa Falls region. This includes all students, professors, and community members within and adjacent to these cities. Volume One staff members and regular contributors are not eligible. If you’re unsure of your eligibility, contact karline@volumeone.org.
2. Fiction entered in the contest must be original and previously unpublished, and the length must be between 500 and 2,500 words.
3. Each author is limited to three (3) entries.
4. The deadline for contest entries is May 15, 2008.
5. Each entry must be accompanied by a cover sheet (available at www.volumeone.org or at Crossroad Books, 301 S. Barstow St., Eau Claire) containing the story title, author’s name, address, phone number, and e-mail address.
6. Entries may be e-mailed to karline@volumeone.org or delivered in person to Crossroad Books, 301 S. Barstow St., Eau Claire.
7. The winning story will be published in Volume One during the summer of this year. Other top-ranking stories may also eventually be published. The winning author will receive $100 cash, second place will receive a $50 gift certificate to Crossroad Books, and third place will receive a $25 gift certificate to Crossroad Books.
8. The winning story and all submissions remain the property of the authors. By entering the contest, you agree to allow Volume One to publish and otherwise use part or all of your submission(s).
