Volume One Editorial Internship
Position description: Volume One is a biweekly local arts and culture publication with a circulation of 15,000 copies in the Chippewa Valley area. This unpaid internship requires 10 hours per week at the Volume One office in downtown Eau Claire working as a writer and editor. Scheduling is flexible, and the job can be adapted to an individual’s editorial or topical interests. Editorial interns will have the opportunity to see all stages of production of the magazine and gain skills in interacting with people as a reporter and editor. Duties include writing, editing, and producing content from feature-length articles to event listings to in-house materials for Volume One and its related publications. Tasks can be tailored to an individual intern’s editorial and topical interests.
Qualifications: Some training/experience in nonfiction writing and reporting is required. Editorial interns must be able to work independently and solve problems on the fly. People skills are a must, since the work involves plenty of interviewing in person and by phone. An interest in local arts and culture, a willingness to try new things and take risks, flexibility, curiosity, professionalism, and attention to detail and accuracy are all essential traits.
