SATURDAY: Big Honkin’ Anniversary Party + Big Honkin’ Book Release
Take a few minutes and try to recall what life was like five years ago. It was truly a different time. People still traveled in three-wheeled, steam-powered wagons. South America had not yet been birthed from the ocean. Most startling of all, Volume One magazine was still in its infancy, the bio page did not exist, and all the contributors had mullets. In celebration of five years’ worth of changes in both and magazine and our hairstyles, Volume One will be hosting a (smoke-free) birthday party on May 12th at the Stones Throw. What to expect: bands (including Mike Perry and The Long Beds, The Daredevil Christopher Wright, and Laarks), prizes (including books, shirts, CDs, and more), free anniversary cake, caricatures, and a whole heap of nostalgia.
Most exciting, though, is that this party is the first stop on the book release tour for The Best of Volume One, Vol. 1, a 300+ page compilation of V1’s best attempts at humor, entertainment, and local culture coverage. Long-time Volume One contributors Ken Szymanski, Mike Paulus, Karline Koehler, Ian Jacoby, Patti See, Nick Meyer, and Eric Rasmussen will stage a special spoken word reading. Books will be on sale for $15, and everyone who buys a book gets a free V1 Card!
