Concert Review: Golden Smog
I saw Golden Smog at First Avenue on Sunday night. I could be witty and say that, after spending three straight days at Rock Fest, Golden Smog was a breath of fresh air, but I won’t. (But they were.) Members of Soul Asylum, Run Westy Run, the Jayhawks, and Wilco (though Jeff Tweedy wasn’t at the show) combined with a bunch of other guests to produce a great, loose, fun, spontaneous, and creative outburst. It served as a reminder that the Minneapolis music scene has more to be proud of than Prince. With all the different people making this music, the dynamics are truly something to be seen and not just heard. And to catch all this talent in such a small club made it even better. Great venue, great music, great fun.

What also made this concert so great was that it was the first of only 2 scheduled tour dates (the other one's in NYC). It's been 8 yrs since their last album (and tour). The show was sold out and it was like 100 degrees in there, but fans didn't care...it was just so neat to see how much fun they were having playing together again. The new album is worth picking up - lots of catchy tunes...

I've been trying to find a full listing of all the guests who sat in. Any chance anyone knows?
