Just a quick note about the most bitchin’ poetry reading you’re likely to see all year long. It’s tomorrow night, and it’s gonna blow your butt off. A few weeks ago, sixteen local poets qualified to compete in the Running Water Poetry Slam’s Fabulous Grand Slam. Tomorrow night, they’ll climb onto a stage to whisper, speak, sing, and holler their very best poems to a coffeehouse overflowing with people.
If that weren’t more than enough, the audience will be treated to a myriad of delights including beer specials, the Paper-Rock-Scissors Tournament, Super Poet Trading Cards, the One-derful One Minute Poet, the 2005 Eau Claire Arm Wrestling Challenge, chainsaw art demonstrations, a meet-n-greet with chess god Bobby Fischer, full manicures (free), live unicorn rides (not free), a junior bride’s fashion show, robotic hedgehog racing, and very special visit from Harry Potter, the Boy Wizard.
The Fabulous Grand Slam is the last slam of 2005, and it marks the Running Water Poetry Slam’s 5-year anniversary. Click over to the (rarely updated) slam site to see who’s competing. See you there.
